Just a reminder to all you short filmmakers, the deadline for submitting your film for 85th Annual Oscar consideration is fast approaching.
The competed entry and film are due at The Academy no later that 5:00 PM on October 1st, 2012. There are no exceptions. (and they mean it!) The official AMPAS specifics regarding your submission can be found here (clicking on the link automatically downloads it to your computer):
If you are serious about submitting your film for Oscar consideration for this or upcoming years, remember, you must FIRST qualify your film theatrically (see above Shorts Entry Form link for instructions) prior to it appearing on the internet or television.
Too often when judging we see (or don’t see) great short films that are disqualified from Oscar consideration because they appeared on television or the internet BEFORE they received their Oscar Qualification; which can be done either as a “Qualifying Commercial Exhibition or a Qualifying Win at a competitive film festival”
All of this is explained in the above link.
The Los Angeles based Laemmle Theaters have long been a supporter of the small, independent film maker and can assist you in holding a qualifying commercial exhibition of your short film, if that is how you wish to qualify your film for Oscar consideration. Click here to see how they can help.
The AMPAS Qualifying Festival List is here.
But regardless of which qualifying route you pick, be sure to also read the official AMPAS Oscar Short Film Entry Form first!
